About this Gravity Falls reference

This site is an independent reference for the animated series Gravity Falls and the books, puzzle campaigns, and supplementary material connected to it. It is written for readers who want the factual shape of the franchise: what aired, when, who made it, what the books are, and how the ciphers work.

What we cover, and why

Our scope is deliberately narrow and factual. We cover the series itself (premise, production, broadcast, voice cast), the three-title print line (Journal 3, Lost Legends, The Book of Bill), the 2016 Cipher Hunt alternate reality game, and the cryptographic methods used across all of it. We do not post screenshots of the show, we do not transcribe dialogue, and we do not speculate about unannounced projects.

How we research

Primary sources first, every time. For the series that means Disney's own properties, starting with Disney Books for the print line and Disney+ for the episodes. For the puzzle campaigns, primary means Alex Hirsch's own public statements at the time, which is why the Cipher Hunt guide leans on the July 2016 timeline rather than later retellings.

Where no primary source exists, we use reliable secondary reference material and we say which is which. The Bradley Pic detail, for example, was not public until Hirsch discussed it on a podcast in 2022, so we present it as a late account rather than as established 2016 fact.

What we will not do

We do not invent dates, episode titles, ISBNs, coordinates, or quotations. We do not present a stated intention as a shipped fact; when Hirsch says he is open to making more episodes, we report that as an intention and note that nothing new has been produced. We do not present a theory as a confirmed answer. And we do not host or link to unauthorised copies of the show or the books.

Gravity Falls, Journal 3, Lost Legends, The Book of Bill, Mystery Shack, and all related names, marks, and characters are the property of their respective rights holders. We link out to official sources rather than reproducing their material.

Corrections

If you find a factual error, we would rather know. The most likely candidates are broadcast dates, since season two aired irregularly, and details of the Cipher Hunt clue chain, where sources disagree on the exact order in which some locations were visited. Where sources conflict, our articles show the conflict instead of hiding it.
